The Pearly Gates

A politician dies and upon his arrival at the pearly gates he is told he has the choice of going to heaven or hell. He will spend one day in each to help him decide.

Upon his visit to hell, he is greeted by some of his fellow politicians who take him to a fancy golf club, where they spend their day playing golf, drinking champagne and eating caviar. He has an awesome good time the entire day.

During his visit to heaven, he spends his day floating on clouds, playing harps and singing. Generally he makes a joyous noise the whole time.

After these two days he is asked by St. Peter where he wants to spend eternity.

He chooses hell. He had such a good time and everything was familiar to him, where Heaven was all very strange and not what he was used to doing.

So, St. Peter escorts him down to the gates of hell. When he enters he sees his fellow politicians now dressed in rags, as they slave away for the devil.

The politician is confused and asks the devil what happened, it was all so wonderful yesterday.

The devil responds: “Yesterday I was campaigning. Today you have voted.”

This joke is only funny because too often it is reality. It is sad that politicians will say one thing during a campaign and do another after an election. It’s bad enough we have politicians who want to get rich on the backs of the public, but it’s even worse that they lie to their citizens about everything and anything, before, during and after the election.

It’s too often true.
